It is common knowledge within the NFL community that Patrick Mahomes is a talker. And he does not shy away from letting out what’s on his mind. But it is a herculean task to get Mahomes to take potshots at former teammate Tyreek Hill.

Hill did take a subtle swing at Mahomes in his new podcast, ‘It Needed to be Said’, calling his current QB Tua Tagovailoa “more accurate” than the Kansas QB. When asked about it, however, Mahomes said, “I’m surprised a little just because I felt like we love Tyreek here. We’ve always loved him.” Head Coach Andy Reid also speaks highly of Hill.

“We still love him. I’m sure it had something to do with trying to get his podcast some stuff, get it rolling. But definitely, I still love Tyreek. He’s a one-of-a-kind player.” It is curious, to say the least, why Mahomes wouldn’t talk badly about Hill.

But after Mahomes’ fabulous performance against the Los Angeles Chargers this week, NFL insider and columnist Peter King has decided to call out Hill on behalf of Mahomes.

Peter King talks about how Patrick Mahomes is better off without Tyler Hill

Speaking on the show ‘Up & Adams’, King had this to say about Hill: “Right now, post-Tyreek Hill, look at Patrick Mahomes, Seven touchdowns, no interceptions, six different receivers. I have a feeling that it’s nothing that Patrick Mahomes will ever say — or Andy Reid will ever say — but I do think they’re saying to Tyreek Hill, ‘hey you know what, we weren’t a one-man team last year we’ll be fine [without you].’”

There is definitely an element of truth to King’s claims. The Chiefs are 2-0, with Mahomes on a 54/74 for 595 yards. He’s at 7 touchdowns and is still rocking a clean sheet for interceptions. While his “more accurate” Miami counterpart has a lower completion percentage, Tua does have more attempts, completions, and yards at 59/83 for 739.

But Tagovailoa has been sacked 4 times and has 2 interceptions, whereas Mahomes has only 1 sack and no interceptions. But then again, it is arguable that the Kansas offense might just be better than Miami’s.

Hill hasn’t had a bad start to his season either. The Miami Wide receiver has a 19/25 for 284 yards, with just 1 fumble. Hill explains on his podcast, “I want it to hit me right in the breadbasket, just like I did in the Buffalo Bills game, and take it 70.” He goes on to say that although he loves the long throws, he prefers the ball come to him than he go hunt for the ball.

With the teams settling in with their new rosters, the NFL community will be closely watching how both teams perform for the rest of the season. Will the Cheetah prove to his former team that they made a mistake letting him go? Or will King’s claim bear true, and will the Chiefs finally say, “We’ll be fine without you.”?
