The Jacksonville Jaguars just underwent one of the worst seasons in franchise history. The outfit could only muster up one win as they went 1-14 this year. Because of this, the Jaguars made several staff changes this year. They got rid of interim General Manager David Caldwell and Head Coach Doug Marrone. And now they may have Urban Meyer at the wheel.

Rumors have emerged that suggest that the Jaguars have finalized a deal with Meyer to become their new Head Coach. Meyers will be taking his first NFL job in his career after great success in collegiate football with Bowling Green, Florida, and Ohio State.

Meyers is one of the most successful coaches in college football. He acquired an impressive record over the course of his college career with a 187-32 record, with an 85% winning record.

However, now he will be taking his first NFL job with the Jaguars, and that transition cannot be the easiest.

Urban Meyer inching closer to NFL debut

Meyers will have the benefit of the 1st overall pick in the NFL Draft. Many expect Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence to go #1 overall in the draft. What’s more, the Jaguars have 3 more picks in the draft that they can use to help rebuild their team.

But it appears as though Jaguars owner Shad Khan made Meyers the most tempting offer. The job has several perks, like a good location, several draft picks, and with their record at a dismal 1-14, the bar for success could not be any lower; there’s only one way to go from here or the Jaguars, and that is UP!

The job in Jacksonville is a perfect starting point for Meyers, who will now be traversing into uncharted territory. If he can help bring an underwhelming team like the Jaguars into playoff contention on a regular basis during his tenure, then calls from bigger and more reputed franchises in the future will be confirmed.

Will Urban Meyer be a success in Jacksonville? We will have to wait till the 2021 NFL season kicks off. The Jaguars must now do everything in their power to help surround Meyer with pieces on the football field to help him win games.
