Patriots’ NFL Draft pick appealed to Rams HC Sean McVay and GM Les Snead. The LA Rams duo had a rather hilarious reaction after the Pats made their choice. However, there is one integral element that the vast majority of the people overlook.

The 2022 NFL Draft had made some major splashes in the past few days. For someone like Bill Belichick, he is not reluctant to go against the grain. The New England Patriots’ binding legal general manager and 6-time Super Bowl champion head coach startled everyone again Thursday evening after their surprising yet intriguing choice in the past week.

When the Pats drafted Chattanooga offensive guard Cole Strange in the first round, it seemed to surprise Sean McVay and Les Snead. While Strange appears to be a quality offensive line addition for any team, selecting him in the first round may be a touch excessive. Even so, that’s exactly what the Patriots accomplished. And that means McVay won’t be able to select Strange once they gave the Rams the opportunity to do so.

When New England picked Strange, the Super Bowl 56 champion joked during a Rams press conference. “How about that! And we wasted our time watching him, thinking he’d be at 104, maybe.”

What many people missed out on was Les Snead discussing what makes Cole Strange so special and why they adore him. He mentions during the press brief, “You know what’s awesome about Cole Strange? U-T Chattanooga would jumped off the screen is; when he takes the first step, it’s about as quick as the first step any offensive lineman can take.”

Most mock drafts placed the Chattanooga Guard much lower. So the Pats certainly made a surprising pick. The Rams surrendered all three of their first-round choices and won’t be on board till the third phase, with a special compensating choice at 104.

Strange’s selection by New England so early in the season will have many people scratching their heads. He’s a fine player, and he would almost probably have been accessible later in the draft. The fans had connected strange to the Rams as an appropriate fit for the team before being taken by New England in the NFL Draft.
