The NFL breathes a sense of competitiveness and integrity in not just its players, but the community developed around the business as well. While the cut-throat nature of the NFL is evident from all the ongoing drama surrounding trades and contracts, the human side shines as athletes and franchises often come together to uphold basic rights. The Eagles seem to celebrate one such event.

Whether it’s Patrick Mahomes speaking out against racially motivated crimes, or the New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft doing his part in the fight against inequality, the NFL has always been well represented by its flag bearers. Joining the rallies, the Philadelphia Eagles have also come forward in uplifting and showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community, even offending some fans along the way.

The Eagles are for the cause

The month of May saw the world rally behind and spread awareness around the mental health crisis. Even Dallas Cowboys QB1, Dak Prescott, came up as an avid advocate for the cause and garnered the support of millions of fans.

But now the month of June begs for people to come out and support the LGBTQ+ community, and the Eagles are the first to do this. The Philly franchise recently honored the LGBTQ+ community by painting a new rainbow Eagles wings mural in Pepsi Plaza.

The mural is 10 feet tall and 24 feet wide with multiple inspirations drawn from the legendary franchise and the game of football itself. There are even footballs embedded into the plants.

However, staying true to the cause, the mural has an array of Xs and Os, symbolizing the fight against the gender-specific system in place and preaching a sense of acceptance amongst the community.

Naturally, the mural has harbored a ton of attention for all the right reasons and even immortalized the artist to a certain degree.

The artist behind the masterpiece

Bold. Energetic. Colorful. Uplifting. Vibrant.

This was the prompt given to LGBTQ+ artist Tiffany Urquhart by the Philadelphia Eagles, and she certainly didn’t let them down. Urquhart was also the genius behind one of the Gameday Posters showcased during the Eagles’ epic Super Bowl outing.

Speaking on the struggles facing the community and her own contributions, the artist shared, “There are a lot of challenging conditions like these anti-LGBTQ+ bills that are happening, The queer community is strong, and there’s reason that they’re loud and prideful and it’s because we have to be.”

She believes that with Pride Month, society needs to be adaptive and allow others to find a place to belong, symbolized by the plants. Urquhart has always had aspirations to contribute to the Eagles’ community and having the opportunity to do so during Pride Month, embarked on a memory that she intends to latch on to forever.
