The Pittsburgh Steelers open the doors to training camps and step into a new era. It is the first time under the reign of Mike Tomlin that QB Ben Roethlisberger is not in the force. The prospective QBs now have competition, but Mike Tomlin will not over-manage it. The situation would be static, but hopefully, they would figure out the starter by Week 1.

After Roethlisberger’s retirement, it is the first time that the Steelers are yet to determine one of the franchise’s top faces. It marks the beginning of the team’s new path toward success without the iconic QB. Moreover, the team now has the prospect of selecting a new play-caller; making it the first uncertain situation Pittsburgh had in a generation.

Coach Mike Tomlin addresses the media leading up to the first Steelers Training Camp practice, uncovering the scenario. He mentions the franchise won’t be ‘impulsive’ in their decisions and not ‘over-manage’ it.

Tomlin mentions via NFL.com, “I’ll say this because that’s the elephant in the room: We’re not going to micromanage or over-manage this quarterback competition. The depth chart will not rest on every throw… We’re going to be a little more steady than that. I think it’s important, from a leadership standpoint, to not over-manage it, to not be too impulsive. That’s what I relayed to those guys, and our actions will continue to display that mindset.”

At this moment, Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers might focus production-wise while choosing Big Ben’s successor. The QB roster has veteran Mitchell Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and rookie Kenny Pickett. Furthermore, Tomlin admits to being concerned about the team’s quarterback situation. But he is also excited about the shift and what the future holds.

Who could lead the Steelers as QB1 under Mike Tomlin?

The Steelers have a loaded task choosing the new starter as the camps open. It gives the QB roster a moment to excel in their performance to bag the price. Moreover, despite the conclusion of the first camp day, Coach Tomlin is not ready to name the Week 1 starter. The chances of the head trainer deciding later are slim.

In terms of the race, Mitch Trubisky has a mammoth lead in the contention. Given that he has the veteran experience, it could be an appropriate choice too.

For QBs Pickett and Rudolph, the rookie quarterback could get his moment this year. However, ‘Money’ Mitch could have the first pop at starting this year’s opening match against the Cincinnati Bengals.
