A few years back Carson Wentz used to be an MVP contender, but recently there has been a huge decline in his performance. It’s been 18 months since the Philadelphia Eagles signed him long term, and now he is bringing out his worst performances ever witnessed. Similarly, the Dallas Cowboys have a choice to think about Dak Prescott, who is currently out for the year.

Unlike the Eagles, the Cowboys are not afraid to sign Prescott. Stephen Jones, the Vice President of the Dallas Cowboys, went on air to speak about the team’s decision about extending Prescott’s contract. He confirmed that nothing had changed in the contract despite Carson Wentz’s deterioration, they very much still wanted Prescott.

“Our issues are in our negotiations with Dak have been we’re wanting to be more committed in terms of the term. We’re not nervous to sign Dak. I think his makeup is all the right things. He’s an amazing man off the field, he’s a great leader in our locker room, a great player and that’s why we’ve wanted to sign him long term… When you sign a player long-term you’ve got more flexibility in how you work the salary cap with a player who’s gonna eat up a big percentage of your cap when you’re talking about a quarterback.” said Cowboys’ Vice President Stephen Jones.

Cowboys aren’t nervous about Dak Prescott, are they ?

Jones might have said that the Cowboys aren’t nervous to sign a long-term deal with Prescott, but it doesn’t mean he is ignoring the gravity of the situation.They also have seen that signing a player long term can be a risk, living example are the Eagles and Carson Wentz. The gravity is the reason the deal is in the picture.

“That’s why we’re trying to negotiate this contract. It’s certainly not easy. We’re looking at it. We’ve been out front, I think everybody’s aware of the issues here of why the deal hasn’t been done is more length of the term than it has been the actual amount of the contract. Certainly shows you our confidence in Dak because we want him here for the long term. Certainly, when you make a bad decision on a big contract, it can affect you.” said Stephen Jones.

Finding a middle ground with Prescott

Jones was very frank with his terms and conditions while discussing it. The point where they both disagreed was the time period of the contract. Jones is neither upset nor is holding anything against.

At the end Jones ended it by saying that he is confident that he and Prescott will find a place somewhere in the middle.
