However, for now, we can enjoy the anticipation of some exciting matchups that have been determined since the end of last season. Here are some key things to know about the upcoming NFL season.

When does the 2023-24 NFL season start?

It’s official: the NFL has announced the dates and venues for the 2023-24 season, and it promises to be a thrilling one. The action will begin on Thursday, September 7, 2023, when the Kansas City Chiefs, fresh off their Super Bowl LVII victory, will welcome the Detroit Lions to their home turf at Arrowhead Stadium. From there, the season will unfold with many intriguing games and events, leading up to the grand finale on January 7, 2024.

The 2023 NFL regular season schedule is out, and it’s packed with exciting games for every team. Here’s a quick overview of the home and away games for each team in the 2023 season (NFC-AFC, EAST-WEST-NORTH-SOUTH team chart):

Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a casual viewer, you’ll want to mark your calendar for some of the key matchups and events that will shape the season.

On Thanksgiving Day, there are three exciting matchups.

First, the Green Bay Packers will face off against the Detroit Lions at 12:30 p.m. ET.
Later in the day, the Washington Commanders will take on the Dallas Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. ET.
And to cap off the day, the San Francisco 49ers will go head-to-head with the Seattle Seahawks at 8:20 p.m. ET.

On Christmas Day, two intriguing games are scheduled.

The Las Vegas Raiders will go up against the Kansas City Chiefs at 1:00 p.m. ET
And later in the afternoon, the New York Giants will clash with the Philadelphia Eagles at 4:30 p.m. ET.
In the evening, the Baltimore Ravens will face a tough challenge from the San Francisco 49ers at 8:15 p.m. ET.

Additionally, there are several games in the International Series, which will be held in different locations around the world.

On October 1, the Atlanta Falcons will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, England.
A week later, on October 8, the Jacksonville Jaguars will return to London to face the Buffalo Bills.
On October 15, the Baltimore Ravens will travel to London to play against the Tennessee Titans.

Moving on to November, on the 5th, the Miami Dolphins will go up against the Kansas City Chiefs in Frankfurt, Germany. And on November 12, the Indianapolis Colts will take on the New England Patriots, also in Frankfurt, Germany.

Important NFL dates for the 2023-24 league year

The 2023 League Year and Free Agency period began on March 15, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. (New York time). At the same time, the trading period for 2023 also commenced.

From April 27 to 29, 2023, the 2023 NFL Draft took place in Kansas City, Missouri.

On September 7, 2023, the 2023 NFL season is scheduled to kick off with the NFL Kickoff Game, hosted by the Kansas City Chiefs.

The regular season of the 2023 NFL season is scheduled to conclude on January 7, 2024.

The playoffs will begin on January 13, 2024, with the Wild Card playoffs taking place from January 13 to 15.

The NFL schedule for the 2023-2024 season will last for 18 weeks, providing each team with 17 games to play and one week off. This totals 272 games in total. The season is expected to run for a period of five months, tentatively concluding on February 11, 2024.
