Patrick Mahomes also released a statement expressing his gratitude and excitement at being a part-owner of the team.

Exactly a year after Mahomes became part owner of KC Royals, he bought ownership of Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City. According to an ESPN source, Mahomes and the club were in talks for the past 12 months. The source also added that “Mahomes has attended at least 12 MLS matches at Children’s Mercy Park, and even led the “I Believe” chant prior to a 2018 playoff game.”

Commenting about adding Sporting Kansas City to his collection, Mahomes said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to join Sporting Kansas City’s ownership team and strengthen my connection to the fans and the city I love. Sporting is a community-oriented club, and I am excited to continue supporting the growth of soccer in Kansas City.”

Meanwhile, his wife, Brittany Mahomes (nee Matthews), also owns the NWSL franchise, Kansas City Current. The Chiefs QB also joined the team as part of the ownership group.
