When the NFL season commences, Cam Newton will begin his new life as a New England Patriots player. Meanwhile, the man he replaced, Tom Brady, is set to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In all honesty, filling in for the likes of Tom Brady is a daunting task. Therefore, many are left wondering whether Cam Newton can successfully wade through the challenges it poses or will he buckle under the immense pressure that comes with such a situation.

The 2020 season is set to kick off in September, so NFL analysts Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe spoke about Newton and Brady.

According to Sharpe, playing alongside great players comes at a heavy cost. People are often quick to blame the support players for any losses. In other words, the star player is cut some slack.

As far as Tom Brady is concerned, Sharpe firmly believes he missed some roles in 2019.

He also insists that Tom Brady is not at the level where he can build the team around him. The primary reason behind his move to Tampa Bay, was for the team to raise his own level.

To be fair to Brady, he has had a 20-year long career, therefore, his desire to sit back and relax a little bit is not completely unfounded.

Is Cam Newton an upgrade compared to Tom Brady?

In all honesty, Brady has set the bar very high with nine Super Bowl appearances and 6 wins. However, going by his 2019 form, Sharpe said, “The 2019 Tom Brady was not the Brady we’re used to seeing.

“Will Cam be able to do things that Tom can’t? Sure. But to say the Pats offense with Cam will be better than Tom because he has a chip on his shoulder, I’m not willing to go that far.”

When he spoke to ESPN he said, “We have to talk about the elephant in the room. You know who you’re coming after. I’m like, yeah, great. What he was, what he is, is great. It needs no talking, even, about it.”

Newton insists that he will be highly motivated when he officially joins New England. Especially after the Carolina Panthers released him and he was forced to wait for a long time for the Patriots to snap him up.
