The Philadelphia Eagles had a season to forget. Far from the glory days of 2018 when the franchise won its first Super Bowl under Head Coach Doug Pederson, the Eagles finished with 4-11-1 record in 2020. A record that left them at the bottom of the barrel in the NFC East.

The 2018 Super Bowl victory was supposed to be the start of a dynasty for the Philadelphia Eagles. But things definitely have not gone according to the plan since then.

The Eagles faltering record in 2020 forced the franchise’s management to fire their Super Bowl-winning Head Coach at the end of the season. A move that raised several eyebrows.

While several reasons contributed to the Eagles’ failures in 2020, not much can be blamed on the side’s 2 point conversions. In fact, under Pederson, the Eagles were one of the most efficient franchises in this regard.

Coach Doug Pederson knows best

Doug Pederson has always been known for his innovative playcalls. Not one to shy away from getting some extra points on board, the Head Coach has always been a fan of going for the point conversion.

According to ESPN’s Mike Clay, the Philadelphia Eagles were responsible for 44 of the league’s 565 2 point attempts during Pederson’s 5 seasons with the franchise. That adds up to a total of roughly 7.8% of all 2 point conversions made in the league.

And in 2020, that number only increased. Pederson’s team attempted 16 of the 131, 2 point attempts made in 2020. A whopping 12.2% of all conversions attempted.

But it’s not that the odds of the Eagles successfully pulling of a 2 point conversion were as slim as completing a Hail Mary. The Philadelphia Eagles converted 26 of their 44 tries under Pederson, which works out to a healthy 59% conversion rate.

The Eagles are now looking for a fresh start under new Head Coach Nick Sirianni. Whether they find success in that avenue, only time shall tell. But the neutrals will surely miss the gutsy playcalls made my Pederson, who was never ready to give up an inch.
