Quarterback Baker Mayfield was recently traded to the Carolina Panthers from the Cleveland Browns. His exit was predicted for a long time. However, the lack of offers for the former Browns QB1 led to the delay of his trade.

Mayfield wasn’t happy with how the Browns treated him. He believed he should have been given clarity before the franchise pursued Deshaun Watson. As a result, he now finds himself with the Carolina Panthers. However, the going doesn’t get easy for him here either.

Baker Mayfield has some tough competition around him in Carolina. Along with Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and Matt Corral will also be fighting to become the starting quarterback of the franchise. The General Manager of the Carolina Panthers gave an update on whether Mayfield will be the QB1 for Carolina.

Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer said, “This is an open competition.” With what the sense is around the Panthers organization, it isn’t certain that Mayfield will have the chance to take revenge on his former team, the Cleveland Browns in Week 1. Mayfield will have to earn his spot. He will also be required to continue performing, or else he’ll get replaced by one of the two other quarterbacks.

A big season awaits Baker Mayfield

With everything that transpired in the offseason and also during the last season, it will be a big year for Baker Mayfield. He will need to prove to everyone that he is still an elite quarterback and should be a starting quarterback.

Next year, Mayfield will be a free agent as well. His performance this season with the Carolina Panthers will play a huge role in his future in the NFL. If he wants to get paid like other elite quarterbacks, he’ll need to perform like them too.

The team he is on isn’t the best in the NFL. However, the QB will need to show that he can perform with whatever he has around him, similar to what other top quarterbacks do around the league.
