The former Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick will release a young adult memoir shedding some light on his high school journey. This would be his second book in the row after producing a children’s book, ‘I Color Myself Different.’

This new book will be released next spring as a graphic novel. It will attract a wide range of young audiences and adults at the same time. After stepping away from the NFL in 2017, the quarterback was actively venturing his career in social activism and sharing his early life experiences with the help of media and printed sources.

‘Colin Kaepernick: Change the Game‘ will primarily focus on Kaepernick’s time at school and the problems he faced. As a teenager, the Nevada alumni was a great Baseball pitcher and played pro football at times.

However, by the end of high school, he had a decision to make as to which game he must pursue in his career. Kaepernick was a talented pitcher, while he was scouted by colleges and major league baseball. His teachers, friends, and family thought this sport was something he would carry forward. But he was not interested in the game at all.

The description of his new book has a specific reason for it. He quoted MLB legend Adam Jones’ saying, “baseball is a white man’s sport.” According to him, pursuing football helped him better express his culture and lifestyle in front of the people.

Colin Kaepernick says football gave him real opportunities in life

This might be one of the reasons why Kaepernick is making desperate attempts to enter the NFL. Football has always been something that remained close to his heart, leaving his Baseball fantasies right away at high school.

“(Baseball) would force me into spaces where I would face open racism and have fewer resources of cultural support.” Football, on the other hand, would “provide me with real opportunities to fully embrace my culture, identity, and community.” he added to his statements.

The release of his new book was announced on Wednesday. “Many of my experiences in high school helped to anchor me in my understanding of Blackness, my community, and my sense of worth,” former Niners QB said.

“High school affirmed for me that it’s sometimes only by transgressing social expectations that we’re able to transform into our truest selves,” he added to his statement. The book is written by Kaepernick and Eve L. Ewing.

After kick-starting his College career in 2007 with the Nevada Wolf Pack as backup QB, Kaepernick piled up records for his team. He played in 11 games finishing the season with 19 passing touchdowns, three interceptions, and 2,175 passing yards. With his chances to make an NFL comeback already fading, it seems the quarterback is trying to venture into a new field by publishing such enlightening books.
