The Jacksonville Jaguars are gearing up for the playoffs and hope to make it to the Super Bowl. But before they were in the playoff picture, they took a big gamble by trading for suspended wide receiver Calvin Ridley. He hasn’t played a single snap in the regular season for the team. But just before the playoffs, the WR has announced his own comeback.
Ridley was still with the Atlanta Falcons when the NFL suspended him indefinitely from the league. And the NFL world won’t forget that easily.

Wide receiver Calvin Ridley announced his comeback on his own after missing the 2022 regular season due to suspension. Taking to Twitter, he said he can’t wait. And that is presumably to play in the NFL again.

Ridley is still serving the suspension that he got in the 2022 off-season. He is accused of betting on a series of NFL games in November 2021. According to the league rules, no person related to the NFL can bet on any football game. Although the league did not find any foul play in the bets, they still suspended Ridley to strictly enforce the no-gambling policy.

The ban on Ridley is indefinite and it will run ‘at least till the end of the 2022 season’. So he can’t play for the Jaguars this season at all. And till the time the NFL decides to end the ban, there is no guarantee that he will feature in the 2023 season either. He can only ask for reinstatement after February 15 this year. So, trading for him with the Falcons was the biggest gamble for the Jaguars themselves.

The NFL world seemed a bit confused after Ridley’s tweet. Some fans asked him what it was that he couldn’t wait for, as there is no way he can come back this season. But it may be that he couldn’t wait for the playoffs to see his team go for glory.
