Colin Kaepernick is the center of controversy yet again. His recent statements regarding the NFL’s contributions has caught the eyes of fans. Despite his efforts to leave the world a better place than he found it, not everyone is appreciative of Colin Kaepernick’s body of work, and the 2024 Presidential candidate is among those.

Ron Desantis has been running a tight ship in Florida. Having been serving as the Governor since 2019, Desantis’ campaign slogan proudly states, “Make America Florida”. As one would expect, Desantis has very strong views on certain socio-economic beliefs and Colin Kaepernick doesn’t seem to be aligning with those.

Textbook publishers in Florida have found themselves in a frenzy. The credit for this chaos can be attributed to Florida’s “Stop W.O.K.E. Act”. The act prohibits certain topics dealing with civil unrest to be inculcated into social studies textbooks. The Florida Department of Education has full authority in determining whether a topic is inaccurate, unsolicited, or borderline violating the law.

The Act directed schools to steer clear of topics like the murder of George Floyd, the 2020 summer of civil unrest, Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem, and the Black Lives Matter movement. The law clearly allows the government to dictate the narrative and even hinders people from illuminating themselves on the oppression against marginal communities. Maybe it was this that rubbed Colin Kaepernick as he recently took to Twitter to clap back at Desantis.

Kaepernick teamed up with Hay Market Books to promote and provide free access to the book ‘OUR HISTORY HAS ALWAYS BEEN CONTRABAND’. The book brings together some of the most prominent writers and their genius. All of these writers are of color, and their texts have been tactfully avoided by the AP curriculum. And Kaepernick has once again outdone himself in bringing the voices of the black community to the forefront.

Even though Kaepernick’s take might make one perceive Desantis as a racially motivated individual, the latter has denounced exclusivity in every possible scenario.

To celebrate the upcoming All-Star game weekend, the NHL organized the ‘Pathway to Hockey Summit’. The event was perceived by many as a “career event for diverse job seekers who are pursuing careers in hockey.” However, the language surrounding the event did not sit right with Ron Desantis. The event targeted individuals over the age of 18, belonging to any ethnic group, but white.

Soon a statement was issued by Desantis’ press secretary, “We do not abide by the woke notion that discrimination should be overlooked if applied in a politically popular manner or against an unpopular demographic,

While Desantis certainly maintained the message of inclusivity, he still disagrees with Colin Kaepernick’s methods and he certainly isn’t the first man of power to do so. Earlier, Donald Trump also expressed his displeasure with Colin Kaepernick and even cited Kaepernick as the reason many are not watching the NFL.
