The 2023 NFL offseason saw many of our favorite athletes come forward and tackle different societal issues. Whether it’s Tom Brady aligning with legends in the fight against inequality or Dak Prescott’s willingness to speak on matters concerning mental health, more and more heroes have come forward to lend support to some noble causes. Similarly, the Baltimore Ravens‘ QB1 Lamar Jackson has had his own contributions to society and is aiming to keep carrying on the mantle.

Having secured himself a five-year $260 Million contract after severe differences with the Ravens’ front office, Lamar Jackson is back to carrying his off-the-field endeavors. The 2019 NFL MVP was recently spotted giving back to the young ones, but Jackson’s impact is not just limited to that.

Lamar Jackson has been a champion for the young ones. The Lamar Jackson Foundation has been providing underprivileged kids with education, sports coaching, and financial aid. Jackson has been a pivotal figure in the fight against hunger as his alignment with Blessings in a Backpack and the Baltimore Hunger Project has been a huge blessing for the community. However, Jackson is also aware of the different challenges individuals might face and is trying his best to eliminate the stigma around mental health.

Taking to Instagram Jackosn recently posted a message to his friend Wayne Cole who was praising the Pro Bowler for his continued efforts to normalize Mental Health Awareness, “I won’t let you down“. Wayne Cole even posted a video of Lamar Jackson speaking on his understanding of mental health.

Jackson shared that his way of mental health has always been focused on spirituality and “speaking to god“. Jackson believes that “god is the key” and as long as one can continue shutting out the noise and distractions, god will help them throughout the way.

In recent times, there have been many NFL professionals who have come up and spoken on their battle against Mental Health, and hopefully, these heroes will continue paving the way for the next generation.

The NFL way

As players continue with their efforts, the NFL has also taken a few steps to help others combat mental health. First, the NFL Life Line was introduced to provide a safe place for the families of these NFL players. The free confidential and independently operated service allows both current and former players to hop on the line with a professional and get immediate help.

Then there’s also the NFL Total Wellness Initiative. The toughness of professional football often incites players to bottle up the distress they might be feeling. Being aware of these possibilities, the NFL launched the Total Wellness Initiative almost a decade back, and the success has been monumental. Players are provided resources as soon as they come out and share their concerns. With recent events, Total Wellness Initiative has played a major role in edging players to speak about their battles bravely, and the NFL deserves a lot of credit for that.
