Odell Beckham Jr. is known for his swagger. On the field or off the field, he knows how to turn heads. Beckham was recently spotted at the star-studded White Party, thrown by The Fanatics owner Michael Rubin where he joined the likes of Tom Brady, Joe Burrow, and other big shots. Sporting an all-white outfit, he also donned a fluorescent yellow bucket hat, standing out from the white-clad crowd, like he always does. But, once he incurred a heavy loss due to his on-field actions.

The Ravens‘ wide receiver has caught eyes for his quirky dance moves and unique celebrations on the field. But even a showstopper like him can have a ‘celebratory gesture’ that fell flat and oh boy, did it cost him.

The price of a celebration

The infamous incident happened back in 2017 on September 24 match between the Giants and the Eagles. Beckham caught a touchdown pass to bring the Giants within 14-7. After smoothly catching the pass, he proceeded to get on his hands and knees, lift his leg, and pretend to pee like a dog.

The act obviously did not sit well as the Giants were penalized 15 yards. Additionally, Beckham also incurred a fine of $$12,154. When inquired about the whole act, Beckham was unapologetic. He said, “I was in the end zone. I scored a touchdown,”…I’m a dog so I acted like a dog. I don’t know if the rulebook said you can’t hike your leg…He (The ref) said I peed on somebody, so I was trying to find the imaginary ghost that I peed on. But I didn’t see him”.

“But either way it goes, you play football. I wear red and white, I don’t wear black and white, with stripes on it. I don’t make calls, I just play football,” he further added.

Beckham also had a different explanation for his celebratory gesture which involved Mr Donald Trump.

A jab at Donald Trump?

Back in 2017, NFL players protested against racial discrimination and police brutality in the US by kneeling during the national anthem before games commence. The then president Donald Trump had insulted the protesting players referring to them as sons of bi****.

Following Beckham’s dog simulation, CNN Editor AJ Willingham took to inquire if there were any connection between Trump’s remarks and Beckham’s gesture.

“If u seen that, I have to tip my hat to u for thinkin outside the box. #URRIGHTONPOINT impressed,”, he responded to the tweet.

It is unclear whether Beckham was lauding Willingham’s brain for drawing the connection or it was a confirmation of the tweet. Regardless of this, the controversial celebration adds to the cringe-worthy moments in the league.
