She wrote, “In my early twenties, I was extremely hard on myself. I was working in a business where girls (that’s what they call us, too- ‘girls’) are judged every day by how they look. I turned that same critical eye on myself. Plus the criticisms I heard back in school and when I started modeling- your nose is too big, your eyes are too small- were stuck in my head like a broken record. So often the work I was doing didn’t satisfy me.”

Because of all these criticisms and constant judgemental eyes, Gisele had gone through a phase of anxiety and depression. The cutthroat fashion industry is brutal, and if one is not strong enough mentally, it can take a toll on one’s inner peace.

The dark phase of Gisele’s life

The Brazilian model had a dark era that was not very visible to the public. She was dealing with anxiety episodes on a daily. And this affected her overall mental health. She would hyperventilate, and her palms would get sweaty. In order to keep a check on her panic attacks, she had to carry a machine that tracked her breathing everywhere she went.

But after resorting to smoking and drinking to tackle these problems, Gisele soon found a more holistic approach to make her life better. She found yoga as a medium to improve her overall living condition. And with time, Gisele took control of her life once again to be the person we recognize her as today.

As the multi-million dollar supermodel continues to live her life post her divorce from NFL GOAT Tom Brady, fans can expect her to have a more positive outlook, as it has been the key to having a more stable and calm life for her.
