What a week for Cowboys Nation. First, the 49ers lost against the Browns and then the Eagles dropped one in New Jersey, making the Cowboys gain some ground both in their division and conference. As of now, Dallas is only a game behind NFC leaders. After hearing about their demolition in Santa Clara the whole week, the Cowboys went on to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers in a gritty 3-point win on Monday Night. This win at Sofi-Stadium would provide a major boost for this squad. Let us dive into what worked and what didn’t work for Dem Boyz.

Parsons And Defense Came Up Clutch

The Dallas Cowboys got off to a strong start on the back of their defense, forcing Justin Herbert and Co. to go three-and-out at the start. Also, the offense came out hot by marching down the field and putting up 7 on the scoreboard. However, both the offenses couldn’t get anything going in the next two quarters as they combined for merely 6 points. Chargers defense bottled up Dak Prescott and put him on the ground 5 times. As a result, both teams were tied going into 4th quarter with neither team’s offense able to break the deadlock.

It was Dak Prescott and Brandin Cooks who brought some juice back into the game by connecting on second and goal, putting ‘America’s Team’ up by 7. But the Chargers came right back into the game due to the Cowboys’ special teams’ error. As it was looking doom for boys in silver and blue, Parsons-led defense showed up in a big way. On a crucial 2nd down, Parsons went on to beat the double coverage and got Herbert on the ground. This led to a long 3rd down where Stephon Gilmore picked off No. 10.

Room For Improvement

Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb were on the same page for the entire night. Lamb had 117 yards on 7 receptions which led the team. The defense might have not stuffed the sheet but it was wreaking havoc all over the field. The Cowboys’ defense leads the league in QB pressure. Prescott even after getting sacked 5 times and under constant duress for the whole game, did not turn the ball over. Although the Cowboys came out victorious, there are still some things to brush up for them moving forward.

It was not a great night for Dallas’ offensive line who surrendered 5 sacks. Mike McCarthy-led squad also had 14 penalties and this has become a recurring theme going back to last season. As good as Dak was on the night, the offense couldn’t muster up any points for nearly two quarters. The boys in ‘Silver and Blue’ were lucky that Dan Quinn-led defense was playing out of their minds which kept them in the game. However, this might not always be the case when they face more potent offenses in the upcoming week. Bye week might have come at a perfect time for The Boys to clean up their mistakes and heal their body.
