Could Brock Purdy, the 49ers‘ rookie quarterback, emerge as a surprise contender for the NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) award this season? A 54-year-old legend and seasoned NFL Sports Analyst certainly thinks so. On ‘The Rich Eisen Show,’ the spotlight shines on Purdy’s exceptional performance and his chances at MVP consideration.

Despite not holding the official MVP title, Purdy’s on-field prowess this NFL season suggests he deserves a seat at the table. What makes this even more intriguing is that he’s operating on a rookie contract, allowing the 49ers to allocate resources to other talented players and maintain a competitive edge. However, some unfortunate numbers stand in the way of the QB and the coveted title.

The San Francisco 49ers boast an impressive 4-0 record this season, and Purdy’s recent games have effectively shattered his “Mr. Irrelevant” label – a moniker bestowed upon him as the last draft pick. His remarkable gameplay has cast a shadow over struggling quarterbacks like Sam Darnold.

Initially, Purdy’s odds of clinching the MVP were pegged at 18 to 1. Rich Eisen, inquisitive as always, asked his co-host Chris Brockman, “Chris, you said to me last week his [Purdy] odds of being MVP were 18 to 1 at that point in time. what are his odds right now Currently?” Brockman replied, revealing a change in the odds to 25 to 1, ranking Purdy eighth in the NFL.

However, Eisen appeared discontented, asking, “How have they gone down?” Brockman pointed out that several other players, including RB Christian McCaffrey, QB Justin Herbert, QB Lamar Jackson, QB Jalen Hurts, QB Patrick Mahomes, and QB Josh Allen, now hold more favorable odds.

This situation raises questions about Purdy’s ability to maintain his exceptional performance and the 49ers’ decision to select him as their quarterback. But what caused the decline in Purdy’s MVP odds? Rich Eisen offers further insights on his show.

Why did Brock Purdy’s chances drop?

Eisen, taking a more serious tone, commented, “All in all seriousness, I was just joking before,” and said the players on that list (provided by Brockman) are indeed worthy of this conversation. One reason Purdy’s odds may have dipped is the rise of (49ers RB) McCaffrey. His performance has been nothing short of outstanding, with four touchdowns and 177 yards from scrimmage in a recent game.

Per Eisen’s analyst lens, McCaffrey even broke a franchise record held by former 49ers WR Jerry Rice by scoring a touchdown in his 13th consecutive game, including playoffs.

Moreover, McCaffrey is on the verge of tying an all-time record by scoring a touchdown in 15 straight games, a feat previously achieved by Hall of Famers John Riggins and OJ Simpson. Hence “McCaffrey is in clearly a great spot and he is terrific,” Eisen stated.
