Is Jake Moody the Dak Prescott of the 49ers? He sure is getting all the slander after the Cleveland Browns game concluded. The 49ers struggled to manage the game and came out of it bruised and battered. There are questions about Brock Purdy’s legitimacy now. It’s crazy how quickly things change in the NFL. No one expected this 49ers loss, not by a long mile, but the NFL continues to surprise.

The 49ers had time to run another play and would still have been left with a time-out, as NFL analysts would concur. After the 49ers couldn’t follow up with the said strategy, it all came down to Jake Moody who botched the play and the San Fran team lost.

A tweet from Nick Wagoner focused on two scenarios: firstly, Jake Moody should have made the field goal and secondly, the 49ers failed at managing the game and didn’t execute their strategies well. The botched snap and the missed FG from the 49ers kicker really did it for them. According to Wagoner, the botched snap was uncommon, and it shouldn’t have happened. Another qualm that Wagoner had with the team was that they didn’t manage their time well.

David Lombardi agrees with Wagoner’s assessment and was surprised when the San Fran team didn’t choose to run another play because, by the end of it, the Browns were also tired. For Lombardi, this boiled it down to Shanahan not taking the best course of action and placing his utmost trust in Moody. He advised Shanahan to treat Moody like a “rookie” and that he should focus on gaining more yards.

The broken 49ers

Apart from the injured players on the roster, the 49ers find themselves in a position of discomfort. This game broke the 15 regular season win streak that the 49ers were coming off of. Brock Purdy threw his first interception of the season. Martin Emerson Jr. picked it up. Also till now, the 49ers were averaging at least 30 points in a game. Safe to say that the Browns gave it their all and took the undefeated ones down.

There are questions about referee callouts and the 49ers struggled with Cleveland weather. This might have caused Jake Moody to miss the kick. PJ Walker also did an excellent job getting a 58-yard gain after he lofted the ball to Amari Cooper, a piece of advice he got from Cleveland’s ex-backup QB Jacoby Brissett.
