Andy Reid Talks About How ‘Childish Enthusiasm’ Sets Patrick Mahomes Apart

Patrick Mahomes is one of the feared quarterbacks in the league. With his rocket arm and ability to make plays from almost any situation, the quarterback strikes fear into the heart of his opponents.

But even as he tears opposition defenses to shreds, there’s one thing about Mahomes that stays the same. The wide smile on his face.

As Patrick Mahomes looks set to play in his second-ever Super Bowl game, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, talked about how his youthful exuberance helps him and his teammates achieve great heights in the league.

Patrick Mahomes a master at team bonding

During a segment of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Reid talked about how he noticed his team’s star quarterback was different from the rest.

“Yeah, right when we got him. He’s got a certain enthusiasm about him. A childish enthusiasm,” said Reid.

When drawing comparisons to other players, Reid said Mahomes is different from the rest and can’t be compared to anybody else. “People always ask me to compare him to Brett Farve. And I’ve gone, maybe that’s it… (But) They’re different guys, obviously.

“But he has that (thing) where you could be playing in the backyard, you could be playing at the CVS parking lot, you can be playing in one of these beautiful stadiums that we have and it’s all the same. You’re getting the same picture,” Reid said.

Always reporting to work with the same enthusiasm, Reid said his joyful nature helps his teammates settle in as well.

“He comes to work every day with that. And he busts his tail and makes sure things are right and brings everybody together that way. So he’s a great uniter of a football team,” Reid added.
