Justin Herbert has been a sensation ever since padding up for the Los Angeles Chargers. The quarterback drafted from the University of Oregon is set to be a star for years to come if his rookie season in the league is anything to go by.

Herbert broke the all-time record for most touchdowns by a quarterback in his rookie season this year. With 31 touchdowns, he broke the record previously held by Baker Mayfield.

Sadly, though, Herbert’s efforts were not enough to guide his team to the Playoffs. And the rookie QB must wait at least another season for a shot at the Super Bowl.

During a segment of the Dan Patrick Show, the QB was asked questions regarding the upcoming Super Bowl. And when asked about the one player he’d remove from the Kansas City Chiefs roster if he had the power to was safety Tyrann Mathieu.

I’d probably say Tyrann Mathieu… He just makes plays wherever he is on the field. He’s fast. He’s smart. And he’s one of those guys. You have to look out for him in coverage blitzes. He’s able to do everything,” Herbert said.

The young QB also shared some advice for the legendary Tom Brady on how to find a way around the threat that Mathieu brings to the fold.

Converting on third downs key according to Justin Herbert

Speaking on the gameplan his side had devised to counter Mathieu, Herbert said that getting positive yardage was a must. You had to take a positive yardage. If you’re hitting a check down for five yards or you’re getting a run for four yards, that’s great.”

But the key to negating the threat, Justin Herbert said, was converting the third downs.

“You need to be able to move the ball and you need to be able to convert on third down. You can’t stay behind the sticks… And so that’s one of those things that we tried to do. And ultimately, we weren’t good enough when we played against them.”

With the quarterback having a bright future ahead of him, only time will tell whether his advice can pay dividends for Tom Brady against the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LV.
