Here’s why the Deshaun Watson trade could make or break the season for 49ers

Just like Matthew Stafford, Deshaun Watson is a man in demand right now. As per reports, 7-8 NFL teams have inquired about a potential trade deal for the 25-year-old quarterback.

But the pressure will be on Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers to at least try to pull off a blockbuster trade for Watson. Following a dismal outing in 2020, the 49ers maintained that QB Jimmy Garoppolo was their ‘undisputed’ starter heading into the 2021 season.

However, one can’t help but wonder if that is a smart choice to stick with. Jimmy G is a damn good quarterback, but Deshaun Watson is better in almost every department. The stats speak for themselves.

The 49ers starter was hit with injuries last season. In 6 games, Jimmy G threw for 1,00+ yards with 7 passing TDs against 5 interceptions.

In comparison, Watson finished the regular season as the passing yards leader with a mammoth 33 passing touchdowns against just 7 interceptions.

The arrival of Stafford in the NFC West has only increased the level of competition in the division. The Seattle Seahawks already have Russell Wilson, while Arizona Cardinals will look to improve with Kyler Murray as their starter.

Will we see Watson line-up in the Red and Gold in 2021? Time will tell.
