Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes have faced each other in a high-stakes playoff game in the past. Back in 2019, the quarterbacks played each other in a thrilling AFC Championship Game that the New England Patriots ended up winning in overtime.
Since then, Brady has moved on from the Patriots while Mahomes is edging towards a second Super Bowl. Now the two face each other on the grandest stage of them all.
Looking back at their last playoff encounter, Tom Brady opened up about the reason behind his little trip to the Chiefs’ locker room after their victory back in 2019 to meet Patrick Mahomes instead of celebrating with his team.

Tom Brady appreciates the hustle shown by Mahomes
During a recent media event, Brady talked about the incident where he went to Mahomes after beating his Chiefs side 37-31 in overtime.
“What happened was we won in overtime. And the field got crazy. So I didn’t get a chance to go over and just tell him what I thought of him.

“And then I just wanted to make sure before he left that you let him know what I thought about watching him play all year,” said Brady.
Brady even compared the young quarterback to legends such as Peyton Manning and Brett Favre, given the way he handled the adversities that he faced.
“How he dealt with all the different things that he had to deal with. I’ve watched Peyton Manning for a long time. I really admired the way Peyton handled all the things that he dealt with. Brett Favre, who’s a friend of mine.

“So I looked up to these guys and guys on my own team, guys that I really looked up to that helped me grow and mature as a young player.”

Brady further stated that given the support Mahomes has on and off the pitch, the future looks bright for the Chiefs’ shot caller. “Pat’s a young player. He’s got some great players on his team. Got some great coaches and a great organization.
“But again, I think he’s got great support outside of football. His family and all those things are gonna serve him well as he keeps going on in his great career,” he said.
