Hospitalized Icon Pele Once Revealed A ‘Kicker Invite’ Move From Super Bowl XLVI Champions

Brazilian soccer legend, Pele, has been suffering from Colon cancer for a while. Recently, he was admitted to the hospital for the treatment of cancer. The 82-year-old. Notably, many consider the legendary soccer player the greatest to ever lace up a pair of boots. Interestingly, he also got a chance to play in the NFL once.

According to a social media post, Pele shared a while back, one particular NFL team, who won the Super Bowl XLVI, invited him to be their kicker. However, Pele did not take the invitation, and the reason was surprisingly funny.

Pele once talked about getting an invitation to play in the NFL

Almost 4 years back, Pele took to Instagram and posted a photo with a football, and in the caption, he revealed, It’s the first game of the [NFL] today. I was once invited by the New York Giants to join them as a kicker.

Then the former Brazilian soccer player joked about the different rules of American football and soccer. I don’t think I could ever have got used to kicking the ball OVER the posts though,” he funnily said.

Notably, the Giants invited Pele after he retired from soccer with the New York Cosmos. In a previous interview, Pele revealed that he did really well in tryouts. However, he did not want to take on more responsibilities at that time; hence, he chose not to accept the offer.

The Brazilian legend also revealed that he found kicking a football not that hard. Notably, Pele has more than 1000 goals under his name in both official and unofficial matches. He also holds the record of the only soccer player ever to win 3 World Cups with Brazil. Because of Pele’s masterclass, Brazile has become the only nation to win 5 World Cups in the history of soccer.

The Brazilian legend provides an update regarding his health

Earlier, reports emerged that Pele has been moved to end-of-life support after his condition became critical. However, he recently took to Instagram and provided an update regarding his health.

“I want to keep everyone calm and positive. I’m strong, with a lot of hope and I follow my treatment as usual… I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you all over the world keeps me full of energy. And watch Brazil in the World Cup too,” Pele wrote on Instagram.

Despite going through a traumatic experience, the 82-year-old is showing undying love for his country, as Brazil is currently playing in the Fifa World Cup in Qatar. On Monday, Brazil will play South Korea in the round of 16, as they are vying for their 6th World Cup title.
