Shaquil Barrett Equals Buccaneers Great After Latest Patrick Mahomes Sack in Super Bowl LV

Bruce Arians’ Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered Sunday’s Super Bowl LV as underdogs. Sure, they had arguably the greatest quarterback of all time on their roster. But they were going up against defending champions Kansas City Chiefs led by NFL golden boy, Patrick Mahomes.
Prior to tonight, Mahomes had just one loss in the post-season. That came at the hands of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots back in January 2019. He was brilliant against the Buffalo Bills a couple of weeks ago despite playing through an apparent toe injury and concussion struggles.
But unfortunately, he could not do much to trouble the Bucs defense on Sunday night. A major reason behind the Chiefs’ poor display (apart from their miserable defense) was the performance of the home team. Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett, in particular, took his game to a whole new level as Mahomes suffered his first Super Bowl loss.

Nicknamed ‘Sack Barett’, the former Denver Broncos man was at his destructive best tonight. He was a thorn in the Chiefs’ offense all throughout the game. He particularly gave Mahomes a tough time in Super Bowl LV sacking him on two occasions.

In doing so, Shaquil Barrett equaled Bucs’ great Simeon Rice for the most sacks in post-season (4). Of course, the last time Rice achieved this feat, the Bucs won the Super Bowl back in 2003.

The same thing happened tonight as Tom Brady led Tampa Bay Buccaneers to their second Super Bowl title. They beat defending champions Kansas City Chiefs by a 9-31 scoreline at the Raymond James Stadium. Credit must be given to Bucs DC Todd Bowles who got his players to put in a stunning display in order to stop the offensive prowess of Mahomes and Co.
