‘Philadelphia is a Hard City to Play For’- Eagles Player Talks About the Carson Wentz Trade

The fans in the city of Philly are a tough crowd to please. And no one knows that better than Carson Wentz. The former Philadelphia Eagles QB was traded to the Indianapolis Colts during the offseason after a miserable run in 2020.
But things were not always this bad for Wentz in Philly. In fact, fans saw him as the QB to take the franchise to great heights after being drafted in 2016.
In 2017, Wentz looked to repay the faith that fans had in him. The quarterback put up MVP-esque numbers and carried his team to the NFL Playoffs. But despite his heroics, Wentz had to sit out the postseason with a season-ending injury.

Backup QB Nick Foles took over, and the rest, as they say, is history. Though Wentz duly got the Super Bowl ring he deserved as the Eagles beat the Patriots in the 2018 Super Bowl, he had to be content from watching along the sidelines.
In the seasons that followed, Wentz’s growth continued to be impacted by injuries, and 2020 was probably the manifestation of it all.
Wentz was sacked 50 times, and he threw 15 interceptions for only 16 touchdowns. The quarterback was ultimately benched for rookie QB Jalen Hurts, who is set to take over the reins for 2021.
And speaking of the move, one of Wentz’s former teammates in Philly had quite a telling response.

The city of Philadelphia is notorious for its reputation of being a tough crowd. And Eagles OT Jason Peters feels that the pressure was just too much for Wentz to handle.
“Nothing really went wrong on that. He was just in Philadelphia. It’s a hard city to play for,” said Peters while talking to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network. “You have got to bring it every year or Philadelphia will eat you up.”

Despite the tough love, Wentz made sure to leave Philadelphia on a good note by posting a goodbye letter on social media. With the Colts, Wentz will look to start afresh. And hopefully, the city of Indianapolis will be a little more patient with the QB as he settles into his new team.
