Rob Gronkowski is one of the greatest ever to play in his position. Gronk’s old-time friend and manager, Henry Penzi, spoke to Sports Illustrated about the time Gronkowski became the next Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone. However, this didn’t happen after his retirement, but before his 4 Super Bowl rings.

It all started when Hollywood actor and Producer Mark Wahlberg invited Rob Gronkowski to a charity golf event. Then, in his rookie season with the New England Patriots, Gronk met some future connections there. And one of them was manager Henry Penzi. Rob Gronkowski could have been the next Dwayne Johnson

Henry Penzi saw the next show business icon in the young Patriots’ tight end. “My vision was to replace Arnold,” Penzi said to SI. “I mean, they’re getting old—Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. My vision was, they’re older and they’ve passed the baton to The Rock and [Jason] Statham, and then they’d give it to the next generation, which is Rob.” Rob Gronkowski even made two tiny appearances in the Entourage movie after the show’s filming had already ended much to Gronk’s disappointment.

Penzi wasn’t far off since Rob Gronkowski has been to places during and after his playing career. Gronk spent his peak playing career days making multiple TV and guest appearances, like appearing at WrestleMania 36 and competitions like Drop the Mic. Gronk’s non-acting background was always a matter of concern for the directors. However, the star factor of the champion always trumped any fears in the end.

Robert Gronkowski won three Super Bowl rings with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick’s Patriots. Then he came out of retirement to join TB12 at Tampa Bay to win his last ring. Clearly, Gronk was an embodiment of team glory. However, colleagues from his acting days didn’t find him to be the best teammate. “To me, he’s not a big team player,” Rob’s co-star in ‘You can’t have it’, Joanna Krupa, said.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost last night to the Cleveland Browns and are 5-6 this NFL season. Should Penzi convince Gronk to come to rescue old friend Tom Brady once again?
