Nick Kyrgios, who lost in the finals of the Beijing Open this Sunday, was adulated by Rafael Nadal. Rafa believes Nick Kyrgios has everything to make a big name for himself in tennis. After beating tough opponents in his earlier rounds (including Alexander Zverev and his brother Mischa), Kyrgios fell short of his best performance in the finals. The Australian received a code violation for obscene language and docked a point as well.

This is just one out of a handful of incidents that has made Nick Kyrgios into a persona similar to that of John McEnroe. He was fined for losing his bearings in several competitions. This included the Wimbledon championships. When he lost to Mischa Zverev at last year’s Shanghai masters, he was fined for “lack of best efforts”. A similar scenario unfolded this week, when Kyrgios couldn’t get over a wrong call by the linesman. This incident happened in the very first game of the match.

Rafael Nadal was unfazed with all the drama form the other side of the court. But he admitted that he was a little surprised by Kyrgios’s actions. “Of course, some moments was a little bit strange for me, something a little bit unusual”, said Rafael Nadal.

But he was full of praise for the talent set that Kyrgios possesses. “He has unbelievable good eyes, when you play against him, it looks like he has time for everything. That’s very difficult. Then, of course, he has great hands and a fantastic serve”. Rafael Nadal also added, “He has everything to fight for almost all the vents of the year. So let’s see what can happen in the future, but of course he will be a candidate for everything”.

Nick Kyrgios accepted that he lacked the temperament to overcome a difficult opponent. Writing for the playersvoice.com.au he said, “I lost a bit of composure after a rough line call in the first game of the match and never really recovered”. He added, “People will have their opinions on how the final went down but, for the most part, I was satisfied with the week and happy to qualify for my second final of 2017.”

Both Nick Kyrgios and Rafael Nadal will head to Shanghai this week, where Roger Federer will also be playing, and could meet Rafa in the finals.
