Nick Kyrgios Ousts Stefanos Tsitsipas in Drama Filled Match at Citi Open 2019

A captivating encounter between the doubles duo, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Nick Kyrgios, delighted the DC’s crowd with the Australian’s entertaining style of tennis in the semifinal action and Leander Paes mending Stefanos’ shoes. Nick Kyrgios defeated Tsitsipas 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(7) at Citi Open 2019 in more than two hours of amusing tennis and he reached the finals in Washington. 

Set One:

In the opening set, Nick Kyrgios benefitted by an early break and maintained his flawless level of tennis throughout the set.

The Australian just committed five unforced errors in the opening and just missed one point on the net out of the eight he played. His underarm serve was returned by Tsitsipas with a grin, but Kyrgios lost that point as it was placed out. 

Perturbed Stef!

Frustrated Tsitsipas who just broke into the top five ATP rankings, couldn’t do much to stay at par with his unstoppable friend and foe, Nick Kyrgios.

World Number 52, Kyrgios continued to put on the show in Washington DC with his one-hander skills and held the set with an overhead smash.

Set Two:

Kyrgios led by 2-0 in the second set, but Stefanos Tsitsipas soon bounced back to erase the break-up lead of his doubles mate. The Greek was hacked off with his trail of a set and a break but he kept himself in the match to overpower his cunning opponent.

Agitated Kyrgios emerged as he happened to lose his lead. He rammed his racquet multiple times on the court. The Australian was given a point penalty and later a time violation. He dropped the set 6-3 as Tsitsipas maneuvered the entertainment into the decider.

Shoe Delivery By Nick!

The third set followed ace service games from Tsitsipas and Kyrgios. As Nick served to love to lead by 2-1 in the decider, Stefanos’ shoelace issues persisted and he went for a shoe-changeover and Nick delivered him a pair of tennis shoes.

Leander Paes Gets Involved… Leander The Cobbler?

Unable to convert the two breakpoints, Stefanos Tsitsipas once changed his shoes and this time, it was an 18-time Grand Slam champion, Leander Paes mending the shoelace for the Greek lad.

100th Ace By Nick!

Continuing with the match further, and Nick Kyrgios held his service games to love and he served his 100th ace of the tournament. Tsitsipas was two points away from getting eliminated but held his serve at 5-5.

Stef’s Errors Continue…

Tsitsipas flawed a challenge on Kyrgios’ serve, the game was on deuce. Later the melodramatic match was driven into the tiebreaker.

Tsitsipas made a comeback from a 1-5 down trail and then saved a match point at 7-6. Later on the second match point, Nick Kyrgios took guidance from the audience and then played the point and won it with a forehand winner on the net.
