Nick Kyrgios Quarrels at Wimbledon’s Press Conference Over Toni Nadal’s Statement

The Australian, Nick Kyrgios won an epic opener at Wimbledon by trouncing his compatriot, Jordan Thompson by 7-6, 3-6, 7-6, 0-6, 6-1. In the match, the entertainer of tennis continued to amuse the spectators in the house. 

The 24-year-old, Nick Kyrgios previous made headlines when he defeated Rafael Nadal in one of the uncanniest tennis matches in Acapulco in February this year. Later, Rafa’s uncle, Toni Nadal claimed that “Kyrgios lacks education”.

One of the journalists in the press came up with a question with reference to Toni’s statement from the past. “Earlier in the year, you took a dig at him, at his uncle. Do you think those comments would have any impact on the match, he wanted to give you a beat-down,” the journalist interrogated.

Nick Kyrgios asked the journalist to state the comment which uncle Toni had made back then and ended up sparring with him.

Kyrgios: “Can I ask you what his uncle said to me first? Do you have that fact?”

Journalist: “I can’t remember.”

Kyrgios: “Once you have that, then I’ll answer that question. But that’s good by you.”

Journalist: “I don’t want to quote it wrong.”

Kyrgios: “Did I go at him first or did his uncle come at me first?”

Journalist: “I can’t remember.”

Kyrgios: “From a journalist, I assume you get your information right.”

Journalist: “Do you want to tell me?”

Kyrgios: “No. That’s not my job.”

The awaited second round encounter takes place on the gentlemen’s court as Nick Kyrgios will face the World Number two, Rafael Nadal as the Spaniard held a comfortable victory in his first round at Wimbledon Championships 2019. 

Before the beginning of the tournament, Rafael Nadal was questioned about his thoughts on his potential second-round encounter with the World Number 43Nick Kyrgios and Rafa simply replied, “I don’t know Nick”.

It’s always a nice moment for tennis athletes to play against the greatest players of their sport and especially on Wimbledon’s court and it doesn’t happen frequently in tennis players lives. The Australian, Nick Kyrgios was delighted to discover a potential round of 64 encounter with Rafa.

“As soon as the draw came out, I was super happy that I saw him in my section,” Nick Kyrgios said. “It’s more exciting. When you’re a kid, you want to play the best players in the world on I think it’s the best court in the world. This is something that I can’t take for granted. There’s no guarantee I’m going to be here again in this position. Could have an injury or something like that.”

When asked about the same Nick Kyrgios made a submissive assertion and as he said, “I’m not sure I and Rafa could go down to the Dog and Fox and have a beer together. I don’t know him very well. We have mutual respect but that’s about it.”

In the year 2014, Nick Kyrgios reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and till date, it remains his best run on the British turf.
