Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) have concluded their investigation regarding the unsportsmanlike conduct of Nick Kyrgios in Cincinnati. He has been found to have committed an “Aggravated Behavior” under the Player Major Offense provision in the ATP Code.

The Australian’s outburst during the second round of Cincinnati Open 2019 is defined as a violation in the 2019 ATP Official Rulebook. For his indecent behavior in Cincinnati, Ohio, ATP has imposed the following penalties.

Firstly, a fine of US$ 25,000, a suspension of 16 ATP weeks and probationary period of six months beginning the Monday and followed by the acceptance of the terms. An appeal can be made by Kyrgios and it should be lodged within five working days from Thursday. 

At the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati, he was fined US$ 113,000 for his misbehavior. Gayle David Bradshaw, Executive Vice President, Rules & Competition carried out the investigation of the Australian tennis player. 

However, the first two penalties, which are the fine and suspension will be applied if Nick Kyrgios fails to adhere to the following conditions formulated by the ATP Tour/ATP Challenger Tour:

1. No further Code Violations during the probationary period that result in a fine for:

– Verbal or Physical Abuse of Officials, spectators or any other persons while on-court or on-site, or

– Unsportsmanlike Conduct based upon an act, such as spitting, directed towards an official, spectator or another person during or upon conclusion of the match, or

– Visible Obscenity directed towards an official.

2. Continued support from a mental coach while competing at ATP Tour events.

3. An additional support to be sought during the off-season (November-December) from a professional specializing in behavioral management.

If Nick Kyrgios is found misbehaving once again, during the six months probationary period, then a US$ 25,000 fine and suspension of 16 ATP weeks will surely be applicable.

At the moment, Nick Kyrgios has pulled out from this year’s Asian swing pertaining to his a shoulder injury. On Wednesday, he lost his first-round match 7-6(5) 6-1 to the Italian, Andreas Seppi at the Zhuhai Championships 2019.
