The spot for the top console of the year is contradictorily shared by both PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. The Switch overtook PS5 in the number of units sold this year. However, PlayStation still generated more revenue from its sales than the Switch. The reason being the cost of the hardware. The Switch and the Switch Lite sell for $300 and $200, respectively. On the other hand, PS5’s standard edition and the digital edition will set back a consumer by $500 and $400, respectively.
PS5 also took home the crown for the highest launch month sales in U.S. history, breaking the record previously held by PS4. Not just the console, Sony’s state-of-the-art DualSense controller achieved the highest launch month sales ever for a gamepad.
