Alexander Zverev is a controversial figure in Germany. On the court, he has shown why he is regarded highly among his peers but his behavior and the controversies in his young career have created a divide between him and German fans.

Sasha Zverev is hailed by some as a worthy successor of German legend Boris Becker. But back in Germany he enjoys low popularity and doesn’t receive the same liking as other German sports icons.

But it seems that Zverev is seen with a suspicious eye in Germany. He is perceived to be arrogant and hard to work with. Unlike German icons like Michael Schumacher and Boris Becker, the German crowd finds it hard to bond with Zverev’s persona.

It can be said that certain issues have created this bad image for Zverev. His former coaches in Juan Carlos Ferrero and Ivan Lendl have complained about Sasha’s work ethic and inconsistent practice sessions. Both of them have said that Zverev is usually distracted. His frequent anger bursts and moody behavior has made him a tough player to coach.

Zverev and his team might now be aware of his dwindling popularity in Germany. Prominent German journalist Alexis Menuge has revealed that he is underappreciated in Germany so his management team is focusing on projecting him to a wider international audience.

“He can be very charming but especially in English. With his manager he focused on the international market, convinced that he would become a world star. He did not take seriously the media of his country where he is not particularly appreciated “

Zverev was recently rocked after his ex-girlfriend, Olya Sharypova had accused him of domestic violence. Further, Zverev’s other ex-partner, Brenda Patea revealed that she is pregnant and claimed Zverev to be the father. Zverev last week admitted being the father.

Sasha has received a lot of backlash for the domestic violence claim from Olya Sharypova. Yet the German has not let these allegations affect his play as recently he reached the finals of the Rolex Paris Masters losing in three sets to Daniil Medvedev.
