Sacrifices play a major role in shaping any sportsperson. They often have to spend a considerable amount of time away from their home and families to carve their path of success. The pandemic situation forced sporting events to shut off for some time, giving players like Nick Kyrgios the much-needed break and family time.
The Australian is a well-known name in the tennis circuit. However, the talented individual is more famous for his controversial calls and statements.
Ever since he turned pro back in 2013, he’s been away from home owing to tours and competitions. Nick Kyrgios used to visit his family but had to leave after spending a small amount of time with them.
Kyrgios has been spending some quality time with his family this year. The ongoing pandemic crisis forced him to stay home and refrain from entering any competition.
“I haven’t been home like this with my family and friends for seven years. There’s [usually] a massive block of the tennis schedule from after the Australian Open to about this time,” he says.
The Australian considers himself lucky to be able to spend some significant time with his family. With his entire family with him, Kyrgios is enjoying the time off from the tours.
“I’m not taking it for granted, it’s been an amazing time at home to see my parents, siblings, and just to be home in Canberra is pretty special. Tennis is a strange sport — especially being from Australia, we’re never home. So I’m a really lucky man at the moment.”
Kyrgios played his last tournament back in February. Following the Australian Open defeat in the fourth round to Rafael Nadal, he went to Mexico for the Acapulco Tour. Going in as the defending champion, Kyrgios was forced to retire due to a wrist injury.
Kyrgios pulled out of the US Open 2020 due to the COVID-19 scare. Ever since then, he’s been out of competitive events. Even then, he’s been practicing throughout the period to keep himself fit and in shape.
