Novak Djokovic has arrived in Paris. The US Open champion, who had taken a short break after his Shanghai Open success, is back to the office, and he has never looked better. The Serbian is on a hot-streak of 18 consecutive victories, and has won all of his 26 sets without dropping any. Djokovic currently has only one thing on his mind though- the world number one ranking.

“With Rafa’s injury, and him not playing China and so forth, it put me in a position to be very close to him in rankings and to fight for a year-end world number one,” Djokovic said in his press conference. “Right now I’m aware of it and I’m going to give my very best to try to achieve it”, he added.

Novak Djokovic has turned his season around, coming back from a drop in rankings in June(world no. 22), to win the Championships in Wimbledon, and backing it up with a US Open and Shanghai Open crown. Djokovic said that he always knew that he would return to this kind of form. “I mean, I don’t want to sound pretentious or arrogant if I always say that I always knew and believed that I could get on this level,”,said Djokovic.
“I experienced quite a low point in the quality of my tennis in Indian Wells and Miami, and then I realized that actually I’m far from my best”, he continued. “I was ahead of myself, obviously, but then I understood that it’s going to be a process and it’s going to take time”, he said. Novak Djokovic’s temporary stint with Andre Agassi did not work out, and Nole decide to reunite with his old coach. “When I reunited with my fitness coach [Gebhard Gritsch] and tennis coach [Marian Vajda] again, we set up a plan and the peak was supposed to arrive around US Open time, and it arrived before. I also had to accept the fact that I’m in the process and that takes time to build. And it takes time to really find the proper rhythm in the game. I had to compensate my serve, and my whole game just needed some reinventing”, he added.

Novak Djokovic also shot out a warning to Nadal and Roger Federer, indicating that there was more to come and that he was only going to improve from here on out. “To be honest, in both US Open and Shanghai, I’ve played as good as ever”, said Novak. “It’s quite the opposite extreme to how I felt and how I played five months ago. So I do think that I’m playing at my best at the moment, and I always feel like I can improve, but I feel like this is a very high level”, he said. The Paris Masters 1000 gets underway today, and it still remains to be seen if Roger Federer can make it.
