Novak Djokovic Clinches Maiden Title at Japan Open 2019 with Victory Over John Millman

World No.1 Novak Djokovic lifts his fourth title of the 2019 season at the Rakuten Japan Open 2019 after cruising past through Australian, John Millman in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in 1 hour and 10 minutes on Sunday. With this victory, Novak Djokovic also claims his maiden title in Tokyo.

Set one

The world No.1 was in full control in the opening set as he took hold of the first break point of the match and broke John Millman in the fourth game to take a lead of 3-1. The Serbian inched closer to the victory as he strikes first to close the first set 6-3 on his serve after 31 minutes of play.

Set two

Novak Djokovic was toying with Millman as he broke the 30-year-old in his opening service game of the second set. The Serb was certainly on a driver seat leading with a set and a break. The double break also belonged to him as it was a matter of time that the Wimbledon champion claims his first ATP 500 title of the season.

Djokovic did not make any mistakes whatsoever while serving for the championship at 5-2 as he closed the match 6-3, 6-2 in one an hour and 10 minutes. Playing his 110th ATP finals, Djokovic did not face a single breakpoint in the whole match.

With this victory, the 32-year-old wins 500 ATP points and widens the gap with Rafael Nadal in the ATP rankings, who is following him in the second position with 9,225 points and is 1,140 points behind him.

The 16-time Grand Slam champion now heads towards the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019, where he defends 1000 points. He will open up against Frances Tiafoe or Denis Shapovalov in the second round as he received a bye in the first round.
