The US Open is one of the biggest events in the world of tennis and is slated to begin on August 31. Serbian star Novak Djokovic is playing the tournament but his biggest rivals, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have withdrawn. This has led many to believe that he could easily win the title. However, the Serb does not share the same opinion.

Novak Djokovic On US Open 2020
In a recent interview, Novak Djokovic talked about playing the US Open 2020 without Nadal and Federer. He admitted that they would be missed but also said that their absence doesn’t give him a better shot at the title. He said, “Every Grand Slam is a title opportunity, but I’m not the only one. It would be disrespectful to say that I have better luck without Roger and Rafa for all the other players. Thiem, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, these guys are as strong as the three of us. Anyone can win, even more after six months without a tour. We don’t really know how we’re going to feel on the court.”

The NextGen is certainly getting close to breaking the reign of the ‘Big 3’, something fans saw at this year’s Australian Open. Dominic Thiem was very close to beating Novak but lost to him in a thrilling five-setter. This must have shown Djokovic how strong the younger players are. This also explains his wariness of them at the 2020 US Open.

Despite the close call at the Australian Open, Djokovic is going to be training hard. Winning the US Open will take him a step closer to his biggest goal – the Grand Slam record. He is just three Majors away from equaling Roger Federer’s record of 20 and hopefully, he will get closer to it in New York.
