Novak Djokovic is known for his numerous records on the tennis court. He has 17 Grand Slam titles and 53 ATP singles titles to his name. It comes as no surprise that Djokovic is the Open Era leader when it comes to prize money won. Apart from his admirable conquests on the court, he also has a heart of gold. He has immersed himself in various philanthropic acts with the Novak Djokovic Foundation.

Djokovic and his wife initiated the organization in 2012 and have been involved in various humanitarian deeds in Serbia. It primarily works towards a better preschool education for Serbian children. The Foundation recently donated 12 million Serbian dinars for the construction and reconstruction of preschools in Serbia.

According to the Serbian publication, Politika, the Foundation has donated half of the required 24 million dinars to the municipality of Trstenik. This is for the reconstruction of the preschool institution “Pearls” from Stopanje. Once complete, it will provide as many as 75 children with high-quality education.

Marko Kovacevic, project manager at the Novak Djokovic Foundation, was present when they inaugurated the project, saying, “Unfortunately, as many as 657 children living on the territory of Trstenik do not have the opportunity to attend kindergarten, and that is why there is a great need in this local community to expand the capacity of the preschool institution.”

Of the 12 million donated by the Novak’s foundation, 10 million will be used for all the necessary structural work. The remaining two million will go into equipping the new kindergarten. The President of the Municipality of Trstenik, Aleksandar Ćirić, expressed his gratitude to the Foundation and its founders, “We want to express our gratitude and pride for everything that Novak and Jelena Djokovic and the Foundation have done for our country, and what they will do for Trstenik in the coming period, and that will be an additional motive for us to continue investing in creating better conditions for the youngest generations.”

All through this pandemic, the Foundation has made regular donations. In May, it donated medical equipment worth $1 million to a Serbian hospital. A couple of weeks ago, Djokovic joined hands with businessman Miodrag Kostic for a very good cause. The two financed a private jet for the medical treatment of Sofia Markuljevic. She was flown to the USA to be treated for her spinal muscular atrophy.
