Novak Djokovic: ” I really enjoy being on court”

Novak Djokovic in an interview with L’Equipe talked about his relationship with his mental guru Pepe Imaz. The World no. 1 also spoke about how he enjoys playing tennis.

It was reported that Marian Vajda, head coach of Novak Djokovic apparently asked Novak to get rid of his spiritual coach Pepe Imaz. But Novak Djokovic denied all the speculations about Pepe. He said, “When people do not know, they start speculating. And when you start speculating, you develop different forms of stories and you make people believe that it’s like that. It’s not like that. I always try to tell the truth. I do not hide that I went through a very emotional time which I am still in.”

Novak Djokovic feels that it is predominant to tackle somethings off the court. For me, it was important to deal with some things off the court. But when something happens in your private life or elsewhere, many people think the problem is an external thing. Pepe, my coach, or who knows. This has never been the case,” added the Serb.

“They question my smartness. I have always tried to be surrounded by people who can help me, strengthen my character and understand me deeply so that I can become a better human.”  “I am not vegan and I am not gluten-free, ” said the 15-time grand slam champion.

Djokovic also talked about his eating habits and clarified some things. He said, “I am not vegan and I am someone who tries to eat well and be aware of what his body takes. They are being too critical towards vegans. I do not like when you judge someone because they eat that or that. But we evolve in a society that likes to categorize like that.” 

Novak Djokovic was also asked about how he enjoys playing tennis. He replied, “If I did not, I would not play anymore. Tennis is my biggest ally and my biggest opponent. It’s on the tennis court that I experience all the ups and downs of my person.”

“Sometimes I lose control, I scream, I throw my racket. But I also show positive emotions. I really enjoy being on the court because it allows me to grow. Maybe it sounds like a cliché and you think I actually want to win titles or it’s my job, ”  said the Serb.

Novak Djokovic is scheduled to play the Madrid Masters, next week. The World no. 1 would remain at the top position at the ATP leaderboards till the end of the clay season disregarding of his result.
