Novak Djokovic Not Satisfied With Just Winning

Tennis star Novak Djokovic is now in the twilight of his career. Even then, the Serb continues to add more and more trophies to his cabinet. However, if Djokovic is to be believed, building a personal legacy is more important for him. “You always have to look for a drive”, said Djokovic on the sidelines of an invitational tournament in Abu Dhabi.

He thinks that goes way beyond winning a tennis game or even a cup. This fact has become stronger in his life in recent years. Djokovic has won 16 grand slam titles and is third on the all-time leaderboard, only behind Roger Federer (20 titles) and Rafael Nadal (19 titles). His goal now is to surpass his two arch-rivals and break his own records.

However, more than that, Djokovic revealed that it is important to find the meaning and purpose of why you play.

Djokovic wants to leave something beyond sports. “It has to be something that is greater than my performance. Something that is understood as an inheritance, something that inspires the lives of other people, especially children.”

A section of tennis fans believe that despite achieving so much, Djokovic has not achieved superstardom like Nadal and Federer. While the other two have become bigger than the sport itself, Novak seems to lack that ‘it’ factor.

It can be speculated that Djokovic intends to fill this gap. He wants to go beyond the sport and be remembered as much more than a good tennis player.

Novak Djokovic lost to young gun Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-finals of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. While many expected a Nole-Rafa clash in the finals, Tsitsipas punched above his weight to bring down the Serb.

Djokovic will look to put this loss behind him as he gears up for the Australian Open. He will give his everything to defend his title. This might be another milestone towards cementing his personal legacy.
