The Serb saved two championship points to clinch his fifth Wimbledon title and 16th major after shattering Federer’s bid for a record 9th Wimbledon title in a thrilling five-setter.

Novak Djokovic’s grand slam tally is just two behind Rafael Nadal‘s 18 grand slams and four behind Federer’s all-time men’s record of 20 majors.

In the post-match press conference, the 32-year-old revealed that Nadal and Federer are the reason that he is still competing at the top level as the three players complement each other.

He said, “It seems like I’m getting closer, but also they’re winning slams. We’re kind of complementing each other. We’re making each other grow and evolve and still be in this game. I think, I mean, those two guys, probably one of the biggest reasons I still compete at this level.”

The Serbian further added, “Whether I’m going to be able to do it or not, I don’t know. I mean, I’m not really looking at age as a restriction of any kind for me at least. What I said on the court, I really meant it: Roger really inspires me with his effort at his age.”

“It just depends how long I’m going to the lay, whether I’m going to have a chance to make historic No. 1 or slams,” said the world no. 1.
