Ahead of the Rolex Paris Masters round of 16 match against Kyle Edmund, Novak Djokovic did not seem to be fully fit.

“I don’t feel, health-wise, 100 percent,” Djokovic, who had a soar throat, said in a press conference. “It is what it is and it’s not the first time.”

Djokovic has always been a little susceptible to injuries. More so in recent times. In the US Open earlier this year which he was aspiring to win for the fourth time, Djokovic was forced to retire from the Round of 16 match against Stan Wawrinka.

In the tournament opener, Djokovic survived a pumped Courentin Moutet, who did not make life easy for the Serbian.

“I didn’t play at a really high level,” Djokovic admitted of the first round. “Lots of errors, especially in the first set.”

“First time against a young player (Moutet) who is talented, very quick, returns a lot of balls back that usually other guys won’t get, that he gets it. He was pumped and I respect his fine experience. It was a good match in the end and I found a way to win, which in these kind of circumstances, in these kinds of days, when you are not feeling your best is important.”

As for the next round against Kyle Edmund on Thursday, he did not seem that he will be able play at the high level he intends to. When asked if he would be expecting himself to be fit enough for the match, Djokovic said with a smile, “Expect, no. Hope, Yes!”

“Obviously it’s not ideal. To be frank, I haven’t felt very well on court for a few days, and I hope to be in better shape tomorrow.”

Djokovic has managed to play through quite a few injuries in his career. But whether he will be able to do so on Thursday remains to be seen.
