Novak Djokovic Wins 5th Wimbledon Championships Title

Novak Djokovic makes history at the Wimbledon Championships 2019 as he conquers his 5th Wimbledon title after defeating Roger Federer in a thrilling five-setter 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12. With this victory, he grabs a record 16th grand slam title of his career.

Roger Federer started the match confidently, holding his serve quite comfortably as he closed the game with an outstanding forehand. The Serb in response held his serve to love.

Both the players held their serve till the tiebreaker with Federer having chances on Novak’s service games but couldn’t capitalize onto it. The set went on till the tiebreaker, where the world no. 1 earned a mini-break to 3-2.

However, Roger Federer canceled the mini-break with a backhand down the line. He then gained a lead of 5-3 with a mini-break. Subsequently, the 32-year-old changed gears and won 4 consecutive points with Federer hitting too many unforced errors. Novak Djokovic won the first set tiebreaker 7-5 without hitting a single winner.

Djokovic had the upper hand of the match as when the Serb wins the first set against Federer, his record is 21-1 with the lone loss in Dubai in 2014. Also in their last 12 meetings, the player who won 1st set won the match.

However, Roger Federer didn’t let his game down in the second set as he broke thrice to win the set 6-1. Novak Djokovic looked out of any sorts in the second set as he hit too many unforced errors with bizarre forehand and backhand errors.

The match equaled at 1-1 with Federer looking to dominate as the Serbian couldn’t break Federer a single time in the two sets.

The third set was a replica of the first set as both the players held their serve till the tiebreaker. Djokovic, however, looked to struggle with his serve as he nervously held his serve.

Novak Djokovic was in full control of the tiebreaker as he earned a comfortable lead of 5-1. The Swiss tried to come back into the tiebreaker after winning 3 consecutive points but the world no. 1 served out to win the crucial third set tiebreaker 7-4.

Roger Federer was still not done as he broke Djokovic back-to-back in the fifth and the seventh game to get a 5-2 lead. Novak Djokovic, however, fought back to break Federer for the first time in the match with still one break down to the world no. 3. The 37-year-old, serving for the fourth set held his serve to close the set 6-4.

 

The Wimbledon Championships 2019 finals went on till the final set with both the players rallying past each other to win the most prestigious title in tennis. Novak Djokovic earned a golden break in the 6th game to get a crucial lead of 4-2. However, the Swiss broke back and held his serve to level the set to 4-4.

Both the players were holding their service games strongly until 7-7 when Roger Federer changed gears and broke Novak Djokovic to serve for the Championships at 8-7. Novak Djokovic saved two Championship points to break back the world no.3 to stay on serve at 8-8. The two players nervously held their serve until the final set tiebreaker at 12-12.

This was the first 7-points final set tiebreaker at the Wimbledon Championships. Novak Djokovic controlled the tiebreaker as he won the championships in a thrilling five-setter.
