Canadian star Milos Raonic has had a tremendous time at the Australian Open 2020. Despite people thinking that it will be Denis Shapovalov who’ll carry Canadian hopes, the young star lost out in the first round itself.

Surprisingly, the out of touch Raonic proved to be the dark horse of the tournament.

A striking feature of his game in the tournament has been his brutal service game. In fact, the Canadian did not drop even a single service game against young gun Stefanos Tsitsipas.

However, things will be different in the quarter-finals. If Raonic is potentially the best server in the game, he will find his match in the sturdy Serb he faces. Novak Djokovic has built his reputation as a terrific returner. This is precisely the reason why he breaks so many serves and in the process, his opponent’s confidence.

Raonic was asked whether he feels there’s anyone who comes close to Novak’s return. His answer pointed towards one of Djokovic’s biggest rivals.

What Did Milos Raonic Say?

Milos Raonic pointed out that if anyone can compare to Novak’s return, it will be a certain Spanish star –

“I think Rafa’s close. It’s two very different things. I think Rafa puts in as many returns but you sort of have a chance to swing away at the first one.”

That’s where he thinks Novak edges Rafa. His return is almost unassailable for his opponent.

“Novak, he’s a little bit more difficult because he just, he goes straight through the middle, so he takes the first angle. Then he stands close so there’s not as much time to sort of organize yourself after.”

However, Raonic made it clear that any sort of comparison between the two players is unfair –

“They’ve both made a hell of a  career doing well on that end of the court and punishing players.”

Tensions are palpable as we approach the final stages of the Australian Open 2020. Milos Raonic knocked off fellow resurgent star Marin Cilic in the fourth round.
