Bubba Wallace didn’t have a great weekend at the Pocono Raceway. “That was the most frustrated I’ve been in a long time,” the driver said after he experienced a break failure going into Turn 2. His day ended much earlier than he would have anticipated and so, he hoped the Quaker State 400 would be the place for a flawless performance. But the 2o25 NASCAR Playoffs aren’t waiting for anyone and the driver who once sat relatively above the elimination line is now sitting in a hot seat that’s getting warmer by the lap. His cushion has shrunk to just 29 points, with Alex Bowman breathing down his neck. A mere nine points behind. That final transfer spot is suddenly wide open, and it’s not just Bowman knocking.
Ryan Preece, AJ Allmendinger, Erik Jones, and even Kyle Busch are still lurking. So, when chaos erupted early in the Quaker State 400 at Atlanta, and Wallace found himself caught in it…let’s just say he didn’t hold back on the radio. Not even a little. The race didn’t start on a good note for Wallace. On Lap 46, things nearly spiraled during pit stops when Christopher Bell exited his stall wide, forcing Wallace to dip into the grass with his right-side tires just to avoid contact. It was an early sign that this night might be more battle than breeze.
But the real fire came later. Bubba Wallace found himself side-by-side with Kyle Larson in the later laps of Stage 1. As they barreled through Turns 3 and 4 in the traffic, Larson threw a sharp block to protect his position. The move, though aggressive, was typical of superspeedway racing. Wallace, however, was having none of it.

“What the f— is he doing?!” he screamed over the radio, clearly fuming at what he saw as a dangerous and unnecessary maneuver. With playoff pressure mounting and his margin over the cut line shrinking, Wallace’s frustration boiled over in real time. Now, the two drivers have their share of history, and given Wallace’s points situation, if this persists, we could see another repeat of Las Vegas in Atlanta.

Things went from bad to worse for Bubba Wallace as he has been involved in the Big One caused by Christopher Bell. As a result, Wallace lost a lap on pit road receiving repairs. However, there was a silver lining as Bubba Wallace managed to finish inside the top 10 (8th position) at the end of Stage 1 and gather valuable points for himself. He finished the race in the 22nd position.

A history of fiery rivalry between Larson and Wallace
The tension between Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson reached another boiling point during the 2025 Quaker State 400 at Atlanta. This moment was just the latest chapter in a rivalry that has simmered for years, marked by high-stakes racing, close calls, and heated confrontations. Each incident only added fuel to the fire. One of the most notorious clashes occurred at Las Vegas in 2022, when Larson’s aggressive move on the final lap resulted in Wallace spinning out while battling for a top-10 finish. The post-race confrontation saw Wallace confront Larson on pit road. Both drivers exchanged words, and tempers flared in front of the cameras. That night, Wallace vented his frustration publicly, criticizing Larson’s racing style and calling for more respect between competitors.
In 2024, Wallace spun out Larson at Richmond Raceway with two laps left, forcing overtime. The replay showed Larson’s car getting loose. And Wallace? Well, he just misjudged his pace before hitting him. Wallace later apologized to Larson, who accepted the apology. “It all worked out for me. It’s all good,” Larson said after he finished third, nonetheless. And recently, in 2025, Bubba Wallace was involved in an incident with Kyle Larson during the Darlington race, which brought out a caution flag and impacted the race outcome. Wallace apologized to Ryan Blaney after this incident, as it compromised Blaney’s lead. Larson’s crew chief, Cliff Daniels, stated that Larson felt bad about being part of the last caution.
