“Number One Priority”: Wimbledon Championships 2021 Update Staging Scenarios

The Wimbledon Championships are surely planning to host a splendid tournament in 2021. The championships could not take place in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The organizers don’t want to miss the chance this time and believe that with the co-operation of different authorities, the Wimbledon Championships 2021 can take place easily.
The management recently gave updates on the possible scenarios. It can be a full capacity championship, a reduced capacity championship, or a ‘behind closed doors’ championship depending upon different factors and agencies. The AELTC (All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club) is working closely with the government to tackle the various challenges posed by the pandemic.
“Staging The Championships in 2021 is our number one priority. We are actively engaged in scenario planning in order to deliver on that priority. We recognize how important the player communities are to the delivery of a COVID-secure Championships,” said Sally Bolton, Chief Executive of the AELTC.

The AELTC surely wants the event to take place. With the US Open 2020 and French Open 2020 succeeding this year, they don’t want to lag behind.

Jamie Baker, the former British No. 2 has also joined Sally Bolton’s team. He will be serving as the Head of Professional Tennis and Tournament Director. Baker has been assigned the task of engaging with the player community. This includes ATP, WTA, and ITF.

AELTC also announced that Rolex would continue its partnership with the championships. It also welcomed Sipsmith, which will be the new official Gin of the Championships. On the other hand, the official gaming rights still lie with IMG Arena and Stats Perform.
AELTC also gave updates on the status of their welfare work in these tough times. It said that it had donated £750,000 to charities and community organizations so far. The body also distributed about 30,000 towels to help the needy ones. It proudly proclaimed that its provision of providing 200 hot meals a day would go on till Christmas.

Ian Hewitt, Chairman of the AELTC, emphasized that organizing the championships in 2021 was not only important for the players but many other stakeholders as well.
“Staging The Championships in 2021 is of the utmost importance to us, for our competitors, our fans, our members, our partners. It will also enable us to continue to support our communities near and far,” said Hewitt.
