The Portuguese winger who was deemed surplus to requirements by Manchester United has signed for Turkish outfit Fenerbahce in a £4.5 million deal.
The club unveiled the player at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium earlier today and both player and club are understood to be delighted at the successful completion of the transfer.
The 28-year-old has made over 150 appearances for Manchester United but a string of inconsistent performances not aided by injury saw him loaned out to Sporting Lisbon last year where he scored 11 goals in 27 appearances during his time there.
Welcomed at Fenerbahce by cries of “I love you, Nani” during his unveiling ceremony, the skillful winger looked exceedingly comfortable in the club’s colours as he looks forward to regaining some stability in his football career.
Once touted as the Heir to Cristiano Ronaldo after his departure, Nani impressed and exasperated in equal measure. Manchester United fans will have fond memories, in particular, of Nani’s performance against Manchester City in the Community Shield of 2011.
However, his erratic approach and persona were not to the liking of Louis van Gaal and Nani fell down the pecking order. The arrival of Memphis Depay is believed to have convinced Nani to seek his fortunes with Fenerbahce where he shall be joining compatriots Raul Meireles and Bruno Alves.
