Here’s Who Will Replace Simone Biles at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 All-Around Final

All eyes were on the ongoing Tokyo Olympics in Japan which began on July 23, 2021. A major topic of discussion was the incident involving Team USA gymnast Simone Biles.

Widely regarded as the greatest Olympic gymnast of all time, Biles opted to sit out the Olympic women’s team final on Tuesday. She cited a build-up of mental stress as the reason behind her decision to sit out the final.

“After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles was withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games, in order to focus on her mental health.”

“We wholeheartedly support Simone’s decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many,” USA Gymnastics said in a statement on Wednesday.

Following the fiasco on Tuesday, the USA gymnastics team confirmed that Simone Biles will also sit out the Tokyo Olympics 2020 all-around competition that is scheduled for Thursday. So who will fill in for her on behalf of the highly-decorated Olympian?

Step in 21-year old Jade Carey. the rising starlet most recently won gold in the vault and floor competitions at the 2020 Melbourne World Cup and the 2019 Doha World Cup. She will definitely have big shoes to fill in order to replace an athlete of Simone’s calibre. But if anyone can do it, it’s Jade.

In the meantime, coaches will continue to monitor Biles. She will be evaluated daily before making a decision on whether she will participate in next week’s individual event finals. Carey had the ninth-highest score in qualifications.

Jade was the 3rd-best American in the qualification round of the Tokyo Olympics. She finished with a 56.265 in the all-around. However, that was well behind teammate Sunisa Lee (2nd) and Biles (1st).
