“Mentally Super Draining” – Dutch Skateboarder Slams Poor Quarantine Condition in Tokyo Olympics Village

The Tokyo Olympics 2020 has reached the Day 5 stage. Athletes from across the globe continue to battle against the odds in order to bring glory to their respective countries. It has not been an easy journey for all the participants in Tokyo, especially considering what they all have gone through in the last year or so.

It’s no secret that a major chunk of the pressure is on the shoulders of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 organizers. This year’s Summer Games are unlike no other. The ongoing COVID-19 threat meant that no spectators are permitted to attend Olympic events, something that is unheard of in the modern history of the games. But there are other restrictions too.

Athletes are also subjected to daily COVID-19 tests and are required to follow strict quarantine protocols. Of course, not everyone is happy to oblige.

Dutch skateboarder Candy Jacobs hits out at Tokyo Olympics 2020 organizers

One athlete who endured a below-par experience at this year’s Tokyo Olympics is Dutch skateboarder, Candy Jacobs. She particularly recalled her unpleasant quarantine experience while living in Tokyo’s Olympic village for athletes.

“Not having any outside air is so inhuman. It’s mentally super draining …definitely more than a lot of humans can handle. Having that first breath of outside air was the saddest and best moment of my life. Definitely feeling some new feelings here. It’s wild.”

Jacobs featured regularly at the World Skateboarding Championships in 2018, 2019 and 2020. The Dutchwoman also competed in the X Games in 2011-2013, 2016. and 2019.

The Olympics committee has not responded to these comments made by Jacobs as of now. We expect more such complaints to pop up in the coming weeks. Watch this space for more.
